OK here we go.
How many places do you want to live in?
* Do you want to retire to one place? If so skip to the next bit?
* If you want to retire to more than one place are you going to buy or rent?
* A lot of people look to stay where they are, say North USA, and go south for winter.
* Can you lock in where you want to go in the winter or do you want to leave it flexible?
* Can you afford to own both places or do you need to rent them out when you are not there?
* Is the family connection making you move about - Can you build a granny flat on your children’s land?
What type of lifestyle will suit your best place to retire.
* Would you prefer an apartment with amenities or would you prefer a house with you own?

Now this is not the exhaustive list but it’s a start. Once you have answered these questions and I suggest you rate them with a 1 to 5 score 5 being most important. Then when looking for the best place to retire you can quickly check it against your list and either decided to do more research or drop it.
This will probably reduce your list of places to look by 75% and then allow you to research those places that come out at the top a lot better. Remember to look very carefully before you leap.
Now those big mistakes when looking for the best place to retire..
* Do not chase your children around.
* Do not let the sales agent in on all you criteria just give them an overall picture.
* Work out how much you have and take off 20%
* Work out how much it is going to cost and add 20%
Now you are set and will have something left if anything goes wrong.
